A European project dedicated to science communication, ReThink<\/a>, aimed to map the communication actors in the scientific area. They did not look at the whole continent, but selected a few countries: Italy, the Netherlands, the UK, Sweden, Poland, Serbia and Portugal. I paid particular attention to the results from Poland, because I expect them to be similar to those from Romania, as neither country has a tradition of communicating about science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team members only looked at online and three specific topics for a closer look: climate change, artificial intelligence and nutrition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I was\nfound interesting:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland was the only country where the majority of communicators were individuals, not institutions. This may mean (my conclusion, not the report's) that there is a gap of desire for institutional communication on science and that this role is taken over by people who have a personal passion for the subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Serbia and Poland, the academic and research area is poorly represented among communication actors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the UK and Portugal, researchers are among the most active communicators in the climate change at the individual level - 11% in the UK, 36% in Portugal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most used channels: the website comes first in almost all countries; in those with a tradition of science communication, Twitter comes first or second and podcasts also appear as a means of communication. In Poland, Facebook is the most popular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
